March 26, 1886 - September 29, 1960
John Baillie along with others was instrumental in giving the world modern translations of several Reformation writers. The works of Calvin, Augustine, Luther, Aquinas, and others are part of the Library of Christian Classics edited by Baillie. John was a minister, theologian, principal, professor, and chaplain. As a Scottish native, he was influential in the Church of Scotland. Baillie wrote a widely circulated book of devotions entitled, A Diary of Private Prayer. John was a brother to D.M. Baillie and like his brother, he was concerned with the application of one's knowledge of God to how one lives out their life. John died on September 29, 1960, in Edinburgh. A pink granite cross marks his grave in Grange Cemetery.
